Charles adaptation

Hi my name is Charles. This is my animation of a sand desert scorpion trying to survive in the cold. I made the scorpion adapt by making it fluffy to keep it warm and claws to walk and climb on the ice. I hope you like my movie.

Ambassador application

Kia Orana my name is Charles I am 10 years old. I want to be an ambassador for 2016. I really think I can be an ambassador because I am confident, helpful, caring and I am responsible of everything I have.

One thing I learnt this year was creating lots of different DLO’s. For an example I made a animation of a scorpion trying to survive in the cold. The sand scorpion actually lives in the desert. I made the scorpion survive in the cold by putting fluff on it so it keeps it warm and claws to help it walk on ice. These are adaptations that the scorpion has to help survive in it’s environment.

Another thing that I loved enjoying this year was sharing a waterfall with my friends In makerspace.  What I learned from the waterfall is making something different. Makerspace is a room where you can create whatever you want to make.

My favourite part is learning with my teacher and my class.

If I became an ambassador I would do my best,come to school and make my school proud.

Museum trip

Have you been to the Auckland Museum before? On the 26th of November The year 5’s went for a trip to the Auckland museum. We went on the bus. Parent

helpers came with us too.

When we arrived to the Museum I was excited. First we had morning tea then we could have a little play. When I was finished eating. I played on the big cannons and the water fall. Then we had to go and explore the Museum.

I was in Miss West’s group. We went outside and looked at sculptures. The first sculptures we found was a huge eagle. The second sculpture we found was kind of like rock climbing wall.I climbed up to the very top.

After that we played octopus on the green grass.On the first round I got tagged at the end but on the second round I never got tagged.

Then we went to the waterfall again The water was dirty so then we went to look at the winter garden.There were beautiful flowers and plants. There was a pond with goldfish and lily pads inside to.

Finally we went inside the Museum.First we went to the Maori room where there's a lot of Maori stuff. Then we After that we played octopus on the green grass.On the first round I got tagged at the end but on the second round I never got tagged.

“Come on” I yelled. Today Team 4 went an did something fun. We had a challenge. This challenge is called the eating challenge. The food we had to eat was weet bix with whipped cream on top and a apple.

First we had to choose a buddy. My buddy was Josh. We walk over at the back of our space and did the challenge on the concrete next to the grass and small rocks. Two green tables were placed on the concrete so we can eat. The weet bix and apple look very yumy.

If you want to play then you will need ten people,a table,food you would like to eat,plastic plates and of course a buddy.Bring your buddy and put them in front of you. Then put your buddy's hand behind his back and put your arms through your buddy's arms and feed them with your hands.

I was feeding Josh first. When I looked at his face there was cream all over his mouth so that cracked me up.I gave him the weet bix first then the apple. Josh was finish so Miss Lavakula told Josh to spit it out. He said it was disgusting and it was YUK!. Cream and weet bix were on his face.

Now it’s my turn. I was scared I might vomit. Josh shoved the hole weet bix and cream in my mouth. Cream came out of my mouth and it was yuck. When Josh put the apple and the weet bix in the same time it was yuk. I spit it out and the cream and weet bix went all over the ground.

It was finished. My favourite part is when I was feeding Josh. It was funny. I like the eating challenge.

NZ Native Animal Report

An example of a New Zealand native animal is the Kiwi. Did you know that the New Zealand rugby team is called the all blacks which is the kiwis?

Description:

A kiwi has there nose on the end of their long beaks.They have a big furry coat on their body to keep them warm during the winter. They use their beaks to find an eat insect. Their little feet help them walk on difficult floor. They also have strong legs.

Habitat:

The kiwi can live in many places.They especially like the wetland and vegetation. Vegetation means where are place where there's lots of plants where animal can live. They are found in scrub and rough farmland,exotic plantation forest,sand dunes and snowy tussocks, even mangroves.

Diet:

Kiwis are omnivores. Omnivores mean animals that eat plants and and veggies They eat spider,snail,weta,earthworms,caterpillar and beetles.The kiwi predators are cats,dogs,stoats,ferrets,pigs,wild rats and possums.

Characteristics:

All kiwis are endangered. Which means you can’t keep it as a pet. They are also harmless.Kiwis are flightless which means it can’t fly. Kiwis can live up to 20-30 years.Kiwis are also nocturnals. Which means

they come out in the night time and sleep in the day time.

Interesting facts:

The kiwis is New Zealand national bird.Every week a kiwi dies.

Holiday

Guess what? In the holidays I went over Josh's house for a sleepover.When he picked me up from my house with his mum, we went to Burger King for lunch.

When we got to Josh’s house we played guns and played american football. We had to have dinner so Josh’s mum went to get two pastry for pizza. We made our own pizza. On top of my pizza was tomato paste,cheese, bacon and chicken.

The next day I woke up nice and early. It was a sunny day to go out. Josh’s Nana said we can go to the movies Yay! But then we couldn't go because Josh’s papa wanted to watch the rugby world cup games so the nana gave us ten dollars each.So we went to the shops and brought us lots of goodies.

Josh’s mum said we can go to the movies until she comes back from work. When she came back we straight away went into the car. Me and Josh said “what movie are we going to watch” she said “born to dance”

Today was the last day  I had to go back home. I had a lot of fun with Josh. Before I left Me and Josh went outside to play with his puppy It was a girl. Now I had to go. I said to Josh “bye I will see you at school”My favourite time at Josh’s is when we went to the movies.

The Blindfold Games

Have you played a blindfold game before? On the 21st of september our literacy class played blindfold.

How to play? First you need to get into a large round circle on the mat. You need lots of colored plastic balls and five or six baskets. You need to get a friend to put your blindfold on for you.You have to spread out the colored plasticballs on the mat then get your friend that you blindfold and tell them to get your colored ball that your teacher choose for your group.

My group had to get the green balls into our basket. The first one that went was Wesley he grabbed two green balls. I waited patiently for my turn. I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe properly.

When it was my turn I was very excited. I grabbed three green balls I was happy with how many balls I got.I like this game. There was a lot of crash up. I dashed quickly through the plastic balls.    

I hope you try this game because I think you would like it. I like

Eating worms

Has your teacher fed you chicken flavoured worms before? Well they’re not really worms they’re just noodles.On the 14th of September our teacher was getting us to do weird things.

When Mrs Garden fed us the worms it tasted like chicken. It was sweet and yummy. She gave us the noodles like we were birds. Lots of noodle juice dripped everywhere on our face. It was sloppy.

It looked like long yellow worms,maggots which is disgusting,slurpee and soggy but was very delicious.

I loved the taste of chicken flavoured worms.

When we were finished I went ahhh. I love noodles.

Butter, Butter, Butter

On the 1st of September we made butter in our literacy class. We got into a big circle and Miss Garden poured half a jar of cream. Then she passed it around the circle and we all had a shake each until the cream is all thick.

I never knew butter is so simple to make. All you need is just two ingredients which is a little pinch of salt and cream. We put our ingredients into a jar and shake it for 12 mins. Then it becomes BUTTER !!!

YAY! the butter is done. We each get a piece of fresh bread to eat with our homemade butter. The butter was very soft. I like it soft so it easy to spread the butter on the bread. The butter was so

delicious I had another piece of bread with butter yummy.

I love butter. My favorite part when we were making butter Is when I had a taste of it. Butter, Butter, Butter.

Grass to Glass-part 1

Cows eat 70 kilograms of grass a day,which keeps

them healthy and strong. And did you know that 70 kg is 70 bowls of noodles? And did you know in the winter they eat silage instead of grass?

Cows have four stomachs, which breaks up all of the grass and into their stomachs. First it goes into their first two stomachs and burp

out the grass and eat it up again which is disgusting.

Milking happens twice a day, it can’t be missed or the cows will be in so much pain. So the cows will be mooing so much they will make the farmers wake up. But If the cows are not milked they will have infections.

Now days milking machines do all the hard work, with suction cup to suck all of the milk out of the cows. In the olden days farmers use their hands to milk the cows.
